Course Provider Listing and Compliance To AAA Guidelines
for US Avalanche Education
The American Association of Avalanche Professionals, Inc., d/b/a the American Avalanche Association (“AAA”) believes that avalanche education can be more thoughtfully, consistently and responsibly conducted, and can achieve more constructive outcomes for students, when course providers and avalanche instructors in the United States strive to embrace common guidelines and practices. Representatives of course providers who are listed at the AAA and Avalanche.org websites are professional AAA members who have reviewed and completed the Course Provider Self- Evaluation and Listing Agreement Terms, where, among other things, they represent to AAA they run programs consistent with AAA guidelines for avalanche education in the United States.

Course Providers
Getting Your Courses Listed
- Carefully review AAA Guidelines for Avalanche Education in the US and determine whether the courses your organization offers meet content and outcomes and instructor standards for that level of training.
- Complete the downloadable form for Course Provider Self-Evaluation and Listing Agreement Terms (This pdf form must be filled out and saved using Adobe Reader-preferably 9.4, which can be downloaded here for free). Submit your Syllabi for each level of training you wish to have listed. (pdf or Word.doc) Examples: Awareness, Companion Rescue, Level 1, Level 2.
- Submit the completed Form and Syllabi as attachments to:
- AND Send a signed, printed copy of the Form with a one-time payment of $75 to: American Avalanche Association, P.O. Box 2831 Pagosa Springs, CO 81147
- Allow 3 weeks time for the review process and posting of your Course Provider Listing. Incomplete applications may warrant further inquiry, and may be delayed if Syllabi are too general or incomplete. The review process begins upon receipt of $75 payment and complete syllabi and application submitted to the Course Provider Review emailed to

Updating Your Course Listing
Once listed, if you would like to add any courses to your listing, you must submit additional syllabi for the additional level/s of training you wish to have listed. If you want to drop courses from your listing, please contact AAA so that we can drop that course from your listing. It is critical for both listed course providers and AAA that we keep your listing current and up-to-date!
The AAA Education Committee oversees the listing of avalanche education course providers on the AAA and avalanche.org websites, but the Committee and AAA do not oversee or control the conduct of a course provider’s business or programming. Please contact the AAA at 970-946-0822 or aaa@avalanche.org if you have any questions about the listing process.
The AAA Ethics Committee handles grievances. The purpose of listing course providers on our websites is as a public service to promote avalanche education by providing a critical link for the recreating public to increase their knowledge and awareness of avalanche hazards. In addition, the listing can assist individuals and organizations in connecting with avalanche education programs in their geographic region.
AAA does not differentiate between any listed course providers or their programs nor do we ensure safety or certify operational standards for any listed providers. In addition, we do not oversee, control or warrant the character or quality of listed course providers’ businesses or programs and are not responsible for the content of their specific courses or programs.
