Avalanche Resilience Project

Our goal is to build resilient snow communities by providing a path of least resistance for those seeking assistance in the form of resources, grants, and a broader community network. The American Avalanche Association’s Resilience Project seeks to provide support and resources for A3 members impacted by mental health challenges associated with avalanches, avalanche work, or avalanche accidents.

While the Avalanche Resilience Project is centered around avalanche professionals and A3 members, we hope to provide a support network to the greater snow and avalanche community. The resources compiled here can be utilized to support you or someone you love. We are proud to offer the following:

The American Avalanche Association would like to thank all our community partners who have made the Avalanche Resilience Project possible.

“In my 40 plus years of working in the snow safety business I have seen my share of avalanche accidents, and I have been there on multiple victim recoveries. Afterwards I suppressed my feelings about those accidents. It wasn’t until I had my own “incident” that I was really shaken up and started having flashbacks and nightmares. It became clear to me that I had PTSD. I was lucky to have good friends and family who encouraged me to get counseling. My PTSD sometimes surfaces, but through counseling, I have learned how to deal with it and now I have a happier life. I strongly encourage anyone with issues after an accident to get counseling. The A3 resilience project is here to help if you need to talk with a counselor.”
