Grants & Scholarships
A3 furthers its mission by annually funding grants on snow and avalanche research and regional education events. These programs help share accurate information on snow and avalanches, facilitate technical transfer between research scientists and field practitioners, and promote research into topics that increase knowledge on snow and avalanche phenomena.
RESEARCH GRANTS
A3 awards Research Grants to members conducting research on snow and avalanches. Both graduate students and field practitioners are encouraged to apply. Preference is given to proposals whose results will both benefit avalanche field practitioners and will extend our understanding of snow and avalanche phenomena. Proposals should embody the theme of the International Snow Science Workshop (ISSW): “A merging of theory and practice.” Applications are reviewed in November each year.
A3 has allocated $10,000 for research grants to be awarded in the 2023-2024 season.
Applications for 2023-2024 Research Grants are due by November 17, 2023.
Contact research@avalanche.org for additional information.

Please note, Awards my not equal the amount requested, and the board may choose to not fund all requests.
The grant application deadline is June 15, 2023. Funding must be utilized for events offered during the 2023/24 season. The board will make award decisions by July 21, 2023.
